AAUW Rancho Bernardo Interest Groups

Interest Groups offer AAUW members a chance to do what they enjoy and to explore new areas of interest. All members are encouraged to participate in a variety of Interest Groups as a means of getting to know in greater depth those fellow members with similar interests.

Each group is autonomous and self-supporting, choosing its own leadership and setting its own program and schedule. Most groups meet in members’ homes and some offer carpooling.

Membership in the Rancho Bernardo Branch is required for participation in our Interest Groups

Afternoon Readers

Group members select the books to be read. Everyone reads the same book for discussion at the monthly meeting with one member facilitating the discussion.

Book Discussion

Group members share their opinions and recommendations on a variety of books and readings.

Cinema

Emphasis is on the type of quality films that are shown at the Landmark Theaters in Hillcrest and La Jolla Village. Each month the group selects the movies to be seen that month. Reactions to these films are shared the following month. Carpooling is arranged for one matinee.

Couples Dine Out

Meet at local restaurants monthly for Sunday dinner at 6 PM. We try to dine at tables of 4-8 to make conversation easier. Separate checks per couple are requested but not guaranteed.  Each couple has an opportunity to host, choose the restaurant, and make reservations for the group.

International Interests

Topics are chosen from the Great Decisions series of articles. Group members read the articles prior to the meeting. The material is reviewed and discussed at the monthly meeting.

Mah Jongg

Mah Jongg is played every Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 12:30 with each participating member taking her turn as hostess. Call one of the chairs for more information.

Lets Do Lunch

On the fourth Thursday of every month we meet at the at Incredible Cafe at 11:30 a.m. Ordering from the menu, individual checks, and no advance reservations define this informal gathering. New members are especially encouraged to attend.

  Stitchery

Every month group members bring any needlework projects, knitting, crocheting or even mending and a sack lunch to this friendly, social gathering.

Women’s Bridge

Every 4 to 5 months participants are divided into groups of 4. Each foursome plays 4 times within the following 4 months. Times and days are arranged by the individual foursome. Substitutes are also needed.
