Local Scholarship Fund
Our branch is particularly proud of the success of its Scholarship Fund to aid exceptional women of limited means in seeking a four-year degree after completing their initial two years in college.
Our branch Education Committee coordinates with Palomar Community College and Cal State San Marcos to select deserving candidates for scholarships of $1,000 or more. Many of our recipients are re-entry students; often single mothers, striving to provide a better life for themselves and their children through education. These women are focused and determined to succeed.
Applications are available online through the individual college’s Office of Financial Aid. The colleges provide the names and resumes of possible recipients to the branch Scholarships Chair. Individual interviews, successful college work, and financial need determine our final selection.
Our primary sources of funding are from a percentage of grocery purchases at local markets and from an annual Scholarship Luncheon. From the inception of the program through June, 2011 the Rancho Bernardo Branch has awarded 120 scholarships totaling $84,050. We are awarding two $1000 scholarships for the 2010-2011 academic year.
You can contribute through our local branch by clicking on Contributions on the menu bar or by contacting our Finance Officer or Scholarship Chair.
