Interbranch Councils (IBC) were formed in the 1980s to enable branches in one or more counties to act together on county matters related to AAUW's Mission Statement.
The AAUW-CA bylaws state: "Branches may speak with one voice on issues of that area by participation in the council." Multi-branch events, sharing of information, community coalitions, connecting the state with the branches, identifying problems and suggesting solutions are all part of the function of the council.
Interbranch Councils:
- Establish positions on issues affecting the interbranch area
- Alert branches to act on intercity or intercounty issues
- Open channels of communication between branches
- Engage in activities that enhance and promote AAUW membership and program
- Comply with state and Association Use of Name policies
- File an annual report of revenues and expenditures at the close of each fiscal year with the AAUW-CA finance vice president, with a copy to the state office
